INDONESIA – IS THE WORLD’S FOURTH LARGEST COFFEE PRODUCER
The Indonesia cup features a contemporary take on traditional batik designs. The cup’s vibrant colours reflect Indonesia’s bright and beautiful culture.
The country’s equatorial location and volcanic, mountainous terrain make it ideal for coffee production.
Indonesia is so famous for its coffee that Java, the name of the island home to half the country’s population, became a colloquial term for the beverage in North America.
Most coffee produced is Robusta. Specialties include ‘kopi luwak’, produced from coffee beans eaten and digested by a creature called a civet, producing one of the most expensive coffees in the world.
Indonesian coffees tend to be full-bodied, rich in taste and lean toward dark and earthy flavours.
UGANDA – COFFEE IS UGANDA’S TOP-EARNING EXPORT CROP
In Uganda, geometric patterns are used as part of traditional storytelling. This cup was influenced by designs used in traditional woven textiles and ornaments.
Uganda could be called the second home of coffee, due to the ‘Nganda’ variety of the Coffea Robusta species being indigenous to the country.
Coffee is Uganda’s top-earning export crop with 97% of it being exported.
There has been a spike in the number of coffee shops in the capital Kampala in recent years as the popularity of coffee in Uganda grows.
Ugandan Robusta coffee typically produces a full-bodied flavor profile that exhibits earthiness and a higher caffeine content than Arabica.
ETHIOPIA – IS KNOWN AS THE BIRTHPLACE OF COFFEE
Inspired by the ancient weaving traditions of Ethiopia, this cup design focuses on simplicity and reflects the purity of the raw materials used in the country’s traditional textiles.
According to legend, coffee’s stimulating properties were discovered in Ethiopia by nomadic mountain tribes who ate the plant’s berries.
Today, Ethiopia is the world’s seventh largest producer of coffee, and a quarter of Ethiopia’s population rely on coffee for their livelihood.
There are up to five thousand strains of the Arabica plant in Ethiopia, resulting in coffee flavours that are complex and diverse, ranging from deep and spicy to fruity and floral.
